What are Vinyl Windows & Doors?

Created in Germany following WWII, vinyl offered a low cost option for windows, doors, and other construction materials at a time when there was a shortage of wood and metal. The plastic-like product is a blend of ethylene and chlorine. It’s pushed through a form to create what is called an extruded lineal – a fancy term for a long, seamless length of product with different shapes, corners, and channels. Think licorice, pasta, gutters or drinking straws.

The extruded lineal is then cut down to the correct length – say, a 24” window opening – and the corners are “welded” together to create your window. The different shapes and grooves in the vinyl allow for glass placement, hardware, and even channels of air gaps – which believe it or not – are excellent insulators!

Installation of Vinyl Windows & Doors

The funny thing about a window or door is that it’s only as good as the installation. Even the best, most expensive wood window on the market today will perform poorly if installed wrong, making it inferior to an economical, well installed vinyl window. Workmanship is so important to us at Weather-Tek Windows & Doors that we’ve devoted an entire company division to Installation & Field Services.

Energy Efficiency at its Finest

At Weather-Tek Windows & Doors we offer one of the lowest U-Factor windows on the market according to ENERGY STAR’s Most Efficient of 2016 list. Hint…the lower the U-value, the better overall performance rating. Vinyl windows are known for their superior insulating values, helping reduce heating and cooling costs, providing you an excellent value and return on your investment.

Low Cost Meets High Value!

Why are vinyl windows less expensive? It’s not because they are an inferior product choice, it’s more about what goes into manufacturing them. A relatively simple material to make and fabricate, vinyl windows are the most common option today. Their popularity along with value-added features such as energy efficiency, weather-resistance, and low maintenance features make them a great value, whether you purchase outright or need financing options.
